The Other Other on Katja Mustosen ja Anna-Maija Terävän
yhteistyössä valmistuva tanssiteos. Teoksen teemana on toiseus. Toiseutta tarkastellaan esimerkiksi muodonmuutoksena itsessä, tavassa ja asenteessa katsoa toista ja mahdollisuutena olla useammanlainen, yhdessä ja erikseen. Mitä jos tänään lainaan ominaisuuksia tulevaisuuden itseltäni, keneksi tai minkälaiseksi muutun? Mitä minun katseeni sinussa näkee? Näenkö sinussa vain sinut vai aina myös heijastuksen itsestäni?

The Other Other pohjaa väljästi Mustosen ja Terävän vuonna 2004 toteutettuun The Other teokseen. Kolmen viikon työskentelyjakso Routa-residenssissä jatkaa toiseuden teeman liikkeellistä tarkastelua nyt, 14 vuotta myöhemmin.

TAITEILIJAT:

Anna-Maija Terävä on Helsingissä asuva tanssitaitelija ja työskentelee esiintyjänä tanssin, teatterin sekä esitystaiteen aloilla. Terävä on valmistunut tanssijaksi Pohjois-Karjalan ammattiopistosta vuonna 2002. Hän työskentelee usein monitaiteellisissa työryhmissä. Keskeisiä työskentelyn lähtökohtia ovat kehollisen tiedon arvostaminen ja taiteellisten ideoiden työstäminen improvisaation kautta. Tanssijana ja esiintyjänä hän on työskennellyt mm. koreografi Jaana Turusen, Soile Lahdenperän, Maija Hirvasen ja ohjaaja Philine Velhagenin (Drama Köln) teoksissa. Vuodesta 2014 Terävä on työskennellyt myös esitystaideryhmä Obliviassa.

Joensuusta kotoisin oleva tanssitaiteilija Katja Mustonen asuu nykyään Berliinissä työskennellen nomadina niin Saksassa, Suomessa kuin kansainvälisesti. Hänen taiteellisessa työssään yhdistyy kiinnostus kehon mahdollisuuksista eri läsnäolojen, mielikuvien, tunnelmien ja kysymysten tulkitsijana. Viimevuosina niin kuvan, tekstin, äänen sekä erilaisten materiaalien yhdistäminen liikkeen rinnalle on kasvanut osaksi hänen taiteellista työskentelyään. Pedagogina Mustonen opettaa nykytanssia, improvisaatiota sekä kontakti-improvisaatiota niin tanssin ammattilaisille ja tanssin harrastajille.

The Other Other is a dance performance made in collaboration between Katja Mustonen and Anna-Maija Terävä. The theme of the work is otherness. Otherness is being viewed, for example, as a transformation in the self and as a way or attitude of looking at the other. Otherness is also seen as a possibility to be multiple, together and alone. What if today I borrow something from my future self? Who or what do I become? When I look at you, what does my gaze see? Do I see only you or also a reflection of myself?

The Other Other is loosely based on Mustonen and Terävä´s previous work, The Other, that premiered in 2004. During the current Routa residency they continue research and movement inquiries around the thematics of otherness.

Anna-Maija Terävä (b.1978) is a dancer and performer living in Helsinki, working in the field of dance, theatre and performance art. She graduated as a dancer in 2002 from North Karelia College Outokumpu. She often works as a part of interdisciplinary collaborations. Craftsmanship of performance and improvisation thrives her body of work. Terävä has worked for example with the choreographers Maija Hirvanen, Soile Lahdenperä, Riikka Siirala (Loiske Ensemble), Jaana Turunen and director Philine Velhagen (Drama Köln). Since 2014 Terävä has also worked with the performance art group Oblivia.

Katja Mustonen (FIN/GER) is a Finnish dance maker and teacher, currently based in Berlin, working as a nomad. In her artistic work, she’s been curious about states of presence and body’s ability to transform, embody, and transmit images into movement, emotions and atmosphere’s. In the recent years, merging photography, video, sound, text and materials together with movement has become essential part of her artistic work. As a pedagogue, she teaches contemporary dance, improvisation and contact improvisation for professional dancers and other dance practitioners.
